Hello, My Name is Mooch

My new best American buddies, Matt and Merrit, left me all alone in Olomouc as they headed into Poland. I spent the next day beating my head against the wall trying to figure out my next moves. Luckily they emailed me saying they had been upgraded to a two bedroom flat in Krakow, and invited me to come along. Sweet! Now I no longer have to plan, I just get to show up. Always my favorite thing.

This place was fairly spectacular. They normally rent out rooms through a website called airb&b.com. It’s kind of like couchsurfing except you pay for your room. You can either rent a room in a house with the owners or rent out an entire apartment. For some reason they had been upgraded from a one bedroom far outside of the city center to a gigantic 2 bedroom right off the royal way directly IN the city center. We were two blocks from the main square! Plus they were still paying the same amount as the small place. It was ridiculous and I was super stoked to be invited along.

My bedroom

Thier massive bedroom. Excuse the mess as I took this as we were frantically packing to leave.

Here’s a brief rundown of how we spent our few days in Krakow:

  • Drank alot of Polish beer. Some of it was super tasty. Some of it tasted like bud light.
  • Ate at the Polish version of Hooters. Matt picked it out. I will point out it was unbeknownst to him that it was Hooters. But hilarious when figured out.
  • Played Kings Cup and/or Circle of Death. Been awhile since those drinking games.
  • Got accosted by several drunken groups of guys on the street which Matt magically saved us from. One of them tried to steal his kebab. It was almost Thunderdome.
  • Drank blue kamikaze shots. Not sure why they thought they should be blue.
  • Saw this STRANGE street performance one night in the square. Still completely unsure what it was about but finale did have a box filled with half-naked women. Yay for boobs!
  • Saw a “dragon” that spits fire. Really it’s just a bronze statue that has a gas flame that pokes out every so often.
  • Wandered around the old jewish quarter, got lost and ate amazingly tasty bagels. Since they were invited in Krakow, you know.
  • And then we drank some more…
